In the morning of November 22, 2018, Professor Richard Henderson (2017 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Research Leader at MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Cambridge, U.K.), Dr. Jade Li (X-Ray Crystallographer at LMB and Richard's wife) and Dr. Shaoxia Chen (LMB EM Facility Manager) visited School of Pharmacy, Fudan University. They were warmly received by Drs. Ming-Wei Wang (Dean) and Jun Pan (Executive Vice Dean). Dr. Wang expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Henderson, his senior in Cambridge University and an old friend for taking time to visit Fudan School of Pharmacy from a tight travel schedule. The honorable guests first went to Jinghui Hall to have a roundtable discussion with 12 undergraduate and graduate student representatives and answered each and every question raised by the students. Dr. Henderson’s research career, passion for science and expectation of young people deeply touched the audience who were both impressed and benefited. In the VIP signature book, Dr. Henderson left an ardent message encouraging the students of Fudan University to meet challenges and to drive innovation: “The last 100 years has demonstrated great progress in science. The next 100 years will be even better. I wish the students at Fudan will have a major role in the exciting future.”
At the invitation of Dr. Ming-Wei Wang, the honorable guests from Cambridge had a business lunch, at the conference room of Shanghai Center for iDrug Discovery and Development, with scientists within and outside Fudan School of Pharmacy. They included Executive Vice Dean Jun Pan, Professor Ke Yu, Professor Xiaoyan Shen, Professor Yonghui Wang, Professor Di Zhu; Professor Beili Wu, Professor Qiang Zhao, Professor Dehua Yang and Associate Professor Qing Liu from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
