According to the officialreply of the administrative committee of Shanghai Medical College on October 29th,2013, approval is given to the founding of the 'Clinical Pharmacy ResearchCenter of the School of Medicine, Fudan University'. The work of new researchcenter focuses on the rational use of drugs (RUD) and teaching, which ismanaged by Shanghai Medical College upon the support from the School of Pharmacyalong with affiliated hospitals.
ResearchPurpose
Due to the significantclinical issues in drug use, the research purpose includes conducting clinical evaluationby applying the latest findings of clinical pharmacy and related healthcaredisciplines to practice; Evaluating the safety, efficacy, cost, and suitabilityof newly marketed drugs; Setting up a professional clinical research unit atFudan; And providing graduates with high-level education and/or training forRUD.

Research Area
The benefit ofmultidisciplinary collaboration at Fudan University leads to good research, teaching, and personnel development, and our exceptionally qualifiedprofessional research group. Major research area, research statement, and staffcomposition are as follows:
No. | Research Area | Research Statement | Composition |
1 | Pharmacogenomics | Focuses on fundamental principles and clinical practice on drug-metabolizing enzymes, transport proteins, and drug targets, with respect to the patients' genotype. | Cai Weimin, Professor Jiao Zheng, Professor Xiang Xiaoqiang, Associate Professor |
2 | Therapeutic Drug Monitoring | Monitors concentrations of the medication and their metabolites in blood; Designs personalized dose regimen; Help promote safety, efficacy and cost-effectiveness. | Zhong Mingkang, Professor Zhai Qing, Professor Shen Jie, Associate Professor |
3 | Pharmacotherapy | Promotes rational drug use and personalized therapy, based on latest theories of pharmacotherapy and evidence-based medicine. | Lv Qianzhou, Professor Xu Qing, Associate Professor |
4 | Clinical Pharmacokinetics | Describes the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of drugs in patients requiring drug therapy; Studies the impact of physiological/pathological factors, diurnal rhythm, dosage, food, and drug-drug interactions on body's total exposure. | Li Zhiping, Professor Ma Guo, Associate Professor |
5 | Clinical Pharmacology | Conducts research on safety and efficacy of investigational new drugs using principles of clinical pharmacology, pharmacometrics, and bioinformatics. | Li Xuening, Professor Zhang Jing, Professor Li Zhongdong, Associate Professor |
6 | Pharmacoepidemiology | Concentrates on rational drug use by using methods of epidemiology and applying them to understanding the determinants of adverse drug effects, the effects of medication non-adherence, and medication errors. | Wang Bin, Professor Zhang Liang, Lecturer |
Research Team
Our team consists of research professionals from clinicalpharmacy and other related disciplines, such as hospital pharmacy, clinicalpharmacology, pharmacometrics, pharmacogenomics, and pharmacoepidemiology, whoactively engage in research, teaching, and practice and apply the principles inrelevant clinical setting. Our professionals focus on patient outcomes fromtherapeutics, take part in clinical trials, bring up and solve drug useproblems, generate new theories, and choose their own research topic. Hopefullycollaboration should be enhanced between schools and universities due to thefounding of the clinical pharmacy research center boosting research achievementalong with a research team with Fudan characteristics.
WorkingPlan
