Experimental Teaching Center of Pharmaceutical Sciences (ETCPS) was initially planned in 2006 and formally founded in September 2008 at Zhangjiang new campus by incorporating undergraduate students’ laboratories of various disciplines in pharmaceutical sciences, including laboratories of medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, biochemistry, physical chemistry and biosynthesis as well as the computer center. Through a unified system for the management of the facilities and effective cooperation between the staffs, the Center is aiming at substantially improving the utilization of laboratories and equipment as well as the working efficiency of personnel resource.

ETCPS is located in experimental teaching building at the campus of School of Pharmacy, with a total area of 3100 m2. There are totally 8 laboratories, 5 instrument rooms, 4 preparing rooms, 1 balance room, 1 aseptic room, several storerooms and teachers' offices. More than 20 experimental courses are offered to undergraduate students majoring in pharmacy and clinical pharmacy at ETCPS every year. In addition, ETCPS also provides part of experimental courses for graduates and evening university students. So far, there are 10 full-time staffs working in this Center, among them 7 young teachers have M.S. degrees and above, and each of them is responsible for 2 or more experimental courses.

Since 2007, both Fudan University and School of Pharmacy have provided great financial supports to ETCPS to renew the teaching instruments. At present, the Center is equipped with various instruments and apparatuses, such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Nicolet iS5 FT-IR spectrometer, Rudolph Autopol IV instrument, tablet machine and multi-channel physiological signal recorder. These instruments and laboratory conditions are open to students after teaching time to provide essential supports for their creative research programs.

ETCPS has constituted a series of rules and regulations based on its specialties to standardize the experimental teaching management. In addition to the routine works such as experimental teaching, laboratory furnishings and purchasing new instruments, the faculty of ETCPS has been actively involved in the teaching reform projects of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Academic Administration of Fudan University in recent years. They have participated in writing 6 experimental textbooks, and have offered a new course named "The Integrated Experiments of Pharmacy", and also held "The First to the Third Competition on Pharmaceutical Knowledge and Experimental Skills". In recent years, ETCPS has also been active in academic exchanges with other pharmaceutical universities and colleges. For example, ETCPS teachers and student representatives have attended the first to the fifth “National Competitions on Experimental Skills for Pharmaceutical Undergraduate Students” and won the first prizes.
