2016年11月14日,2005年诺贝尔生理学或医学奖得主、西澳大利亚大学临床微生物学教授Barry J. Marshall博士在诺贝尔媒体首席科学编辑Adam Smith博士、诺贝尔媒体科学项目经理Rebecca Nesbit博士和阿斯利康公司研发部心血管与代谢疾病创新医药项目资深总监Beritte Christendon博士等的陪同下到访复旦大学药学院,受到老朋友、院长王明伟研究员的热情接待。在观看了药学院成立80周年宣传片《 笃学济人》英文版后, Marshall教授与近30名本科生、研究生和青年教师进行了座谈,介绍其职业生涯、科学思想和成长经历,并就与会人员提出的问题一一作答,会场气氛活跃,反响热烈。中午,Marshall教授与部分学生代表在张江校区食堂共进午餐,继续讨论大家所关心的议题。
下午, Marshall教授在行政楼106会议室向来自院内外约180位听众做了题为“人类大战幽门螺杆菌—穿越过去5万年与发现未来50年”的学术报告,多名Barry J. Marshall教授的老朋友,包括中国工程院院士闻玉梅教授、上海交通大学附属仁济医院消化内科主任医师陆红教授和第三军医大学医学检验系生物制药教研室 主任邹全明教授应邀参加。Barry Marshall教授的演讲风趣幽默,精彩纷呈,引人入胜。期间,他还与王明伟研究员和陆红教授一起缅怀了在我国幽门螺杆菌感染防治领域做出过杰出贡献的已故著名消化病学专家萧树东教授。闻玉梅院士在互动环节高度评价了Barry Marshall教授在成为诺贝尔奖得主之后继续开拓创新所取得的重大成就,勉励在座的莘莘学子们要树立理想,不懈奋进,立志成才。

Dr. Barry Marshall from University of Western Australia visits Fudan School of Pharmacy
Accompanied by Drs. Adam Smith (Chief Scientific Officer of Nobel Media), Rebecca Nesbit (Scientific Programme Manager of Nobel Media) and Professor Beritte Christendon (Senior Director of CVMD, iMed Strategic Planning and Operations, AstraZeneca R&D), Dr. Barry J. Marshall (Professor of Clinical Microbiology, University of Western Australia and 2005 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physiology or Medicine) visited School of Pharmacy, Fudan University on November 14, 2016. He was warmly received by his old friend, Professor Ming-Wei Wang (Dean). Following a video presentation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Fudan School of Pharmacy (English edition), Dr. Marshall held a roundtable discussion with approximately 30 undergraduate students, postgraduate students and young faculty members. He introduced his professional career, scientific thoughts and life experiences, as well as answered various questions raised from the audience. The atmosphere at the meeting room was active and the responses were enthusiastic. At noon, Professor Marshall had lunch, in the Dining Hall of Zhangjiang Campus, with some of the students continuing their discussions on topics of mutual interests.
In the afternoon, Professor Marshall delivered an invited lecture, entitled “Helicobacter: the past 50,000 years and the next 50”, to about 180 participants within and outside of School of Pharmacy at Lecture Hall 106, Zhangjiang Campus. Several of his old friends, including Professor Yumei Wen (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Professor Hong Lu (Chief Physician in the Department of Gastroenterology, Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University) and Professor Quanming Zou (Director of Biomedical Analysis Center, Third Military Medical University), were present at the invitation of Dr. Ming-Wei Wang. Professor Marshall’s speech was humorous, passionate and fascinating. During which, he cherished the memory of late Professor Shudong Xiao, a renowned gastroenterologist who made outstanding contributions to the prevention and treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection in China, jointly with Drs. Ming-Wei Wang and Hong Lu. In the question-and-answer session, Professor Yumei Wen highly commended Professor Marshall for his remarkable innovation achievements made after his receipt of the Nobel Prize. She encouraged the students in the audience to set up high goals, to make asserted efforts and to become useful persons.
